Casino Manager
The gaming industry is one of the most exciting and most profitable today. Casinos attract thousands of visitors each year and make millions in revenue. The Casino Manager is a critical part of this fast paced, high roller industry.
The Casino Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management of the casino. He hires, trains and schedules wait staff ensuring proper coverage during peak times. He is responsible for the physical maintenance of the casino, including the cleaning crew and building maintenance personnel.
The Casino Manager is also responsible for Casino Accounting. He manages the personnel working the windows that sell and cash in gaming chips. He also handles large cash payouts to big winners, and sees to the emptying of slot machines. He keeps the financial records for the casino, including paying bills, making bank deposits and reporting profits and losses. He is responsible for creating and working within a yearly management budget for the casino.
Because he has day-to-day responsibility for the casino operation, the Casino Manager must maintain supplies required for running the business. He is responsible for upkeep of machinery and business supplies.
The Casino Manager is part of a team of professionals that operate various areas of the casino. They include the Pitt Boss and Security Manager. The Pitt Boss is responsible for the gaming tables and the staff that works these tables. He oversees the actual gaming and customer interaction. He and the Casino Manager communicate regularly about staffing and employee concerns. The Security Manager is responsible for casino security and surveillance. The Casino Manager and Security Manager work very closely together to ensure safety of the personnel, customers and the large amount of cash that resides at casinos. In addition, the Security Manager works with the Casino Manager and Pitt Boss to look for and protect against fraud. They closely monitor dealers and customers to ensure that the casino is operating above board.
Casino managers may be responsible for developing marketing programs, contests and promotions for the casino in order to keep attendance high. They may work with advertising agencies on advertising campaigns for the casino. If the casino is part of a hotel and restaurant, the Casino Manager may work with the managers of these areas on promotions designed to ensure that customers take advantage of all the complex has to offer.
Casino Managers are usually required to have a degree in business management, accounting or some other related area. In addition, they must typically have prior casino experience before being promoted to manager. They must have excellent accounting skills, and must often be bonded. Casino must possess good management skills, and must be detail oriented and successful at multi-tasking. They must be knowledgeable in gaming and human resource law.
Casino Managers must have outgoing yet professional demeanors. They must be fair and objective, and have a flair for dealing with the public. The gaming industry can be fun and glamorous, but it takes a highly organized manager to make it all run smoothly.
