Following Up An Interview Effectively

The interview is over and now the waiting begins. Unfortunately, the waiting is the hardest part of the process. Thousands of job seekers wait anxiously to hear from a prospective employer as each day passes post interview. Many usually carry on with their normal daily routine while others tend to put a hold on their life until they hear something from the company they wish to work for. Whichever type of person you are, here is some helpful information concerning how to effectively follow up an interview.

Writing a Magnetic Follow Up Letter

Writing follow up letters is the most effective way of following up an interview. No doubt your interviewer will have dozens of follow up calls and emails from other prospective employees who want to "thank" them just like yourself. But what could you do to make your letter stand out from the crowd and grab their attention?

Being Thankful

First of all you should thank them always for granting you an interview. It takes time, energy and patience to perform several interviews a day. There's no telling how many interviews were performed before yours and after yours the day of your interview. After greeting and re-introducing yourself, thank them for their time in both granting the initial interview and for sparing time to read your letter.

Get Down to Business

Now is your chance to reel them in by telling them what YOU can do for their company. Show them exactly what the benefits of hiring you will be for their company. Avoid a "play on words" as you describe your plan of action WHEN you are hired. We say when for the simple reason that employers enjoy confident people. Do not be too aggressive in this manner but simply talk as if you already have the job. Be enthusiastic. Enthusiasm is contagious so feel free to be as enthusiastic about your abilities and strengths as you wish. The interviewer will catch on eventually. Just do not overdo it.

Seal the Deal and Close the Letter

Invite the interviewer to find out more about your skills as a worker by either inviting you back for a second interview or by hiring you into the company. Guarantee your best if chosen and hired. Give the interviewer something to look forward to. If you can bring excitement and fresh new ideas into the company, then by all means let him or her know this! Whet his or her appetite for your creative and reasoning abilities. Leave them wanting to know more about you and/or wanting to hire you permanently. Be sure to thank them again and close the letter. Remember to always include your contact information for the interviewer to contact you.
