Give Yourself A Career Makeover
If you have become complacent or bored in your current position, it may be time for a career makeover. While the thought of something new may be exhilarating, it is quite possibly frightening also. If you have decided it is time for a change, you should make it a point to find your dream job instead of just another dead-end road.
What do you like to do?
You should first look at what you enjoy doing. Would you like nothing more than to spend the rest of your life in the kitchen baking cookies or trading stock? You have always heard the stories of jobs that are not really like jobs at all because you enjoy doing them so much - imagine what your dream job may be.
What careers fit this mold?
What careers may be available that utilize your skills and what you enjoy doing? If you enjoy writing, you may wish to utilize this talent as an author, or if you enjoy the outdoors, you may want to be a mountain guide. Be creative and come up with as many ideas as you can that are within the scope of your talents and experience. You may look online at employment sources to get ideas or your local paper.
Research
Look into these careers and research availability, pay, and other potentially important factors. You may have to look outside the mainstream. Your dream job may not be readily available, so you may consider going into business for yourself or relocating to find something that fits you better.
Narrow down your options
Through your research, you will probably be able to eliminate some of your potential choices. You may find out that some jobs do not pay enough or you may be unwilling to sacrifice location for others. For whatever reason, you will end up with fewer choices at the end of the process to choose from.
More research
Now you need to find out exactly what it takes to become a candidate for your dream job. Do you need an additional degree or certain experience? Research the detailed information on the positions you have left on your list.
Take action
Now it is time to take action. Decide what you want to do and go for it! You should create an exact plan detailing how you will achieve your dream position. Do not wait around; destiny waits for no one. The longer you wait, the less likely you are to ever see your dreams come true. While you may not be able to run off immediately and change careers, you can at least begin the process to achieve true happiness.
