Highlighting Achievements Is Necessary For A Successful Sales Job Search


The ultimate aim of any job search is success. If you do not have a success- oriented mindset, chances are you will not progress in your career. There is nothing more frustrating than a job search that appears to be going nowhere.

If you are embarking on a sales job search, you face a number of challenges. While low-paying sales jobs may be plentiful, high-paying positions are few and far between. Therefore, it is absolutely critical that you do all you can to present your candidacy in the best possible light. Perhaps the most important thing you can do to aid your job search is to highlight your achievements. But what does this really mean?

Your achievements should stand out on your resume

It is simply not enough to list the various places that you've worked and the positions that you've held. You must also be able to showcase your achievements in the context of your resume. This may mean highlighting your various job duties and the accomplishments you've made on the job. Also, make sure that you include a section in your resume for awards and honors. If you've been named salesperson of the year, it's important that you not keep that information to yourself.

Stress your achievements in your interview

You'll also need to emphasize your accomplishments during your job interview. At this point, you may be thinking that such a technique would constitute boasting. It doesn't. You can't depend on your resume to speak for you. You must be able to clearly articulate the kinds of things you've accomplished on the job.

It may not be easy for you to talk about your achievements. Therefore, you might consider practicing it by doing some role-playing with a friend. In this way, you can gain confidence in discussing your honors. This will serve you well during a stressful interview situation.

Mention your accomplishments in your cover letter

It's also a good idea to write about your achievements in your cover letter. A cover letter is, in essence, a letter of introduction. Your achievements say something about your talents, skills, and work ethic. By listing your achievements, you are telling your future employer what you can accomplish if given a chance.

Have your references tell your story

You'll want to make sure that your references are fully knowledgeable about all your accomplishments. It's a good idea, therefore, to send your resume to each of the people who have agreed to provide references for you. You may need to do this in order to remind them of all that you've done throughout your career. When your references highlight your accomplishments, it lends credibility to your candidacy.

Everyday is another opportunity

You need to realize that each day represents new opportunities for showcasing your talents and skills. Therefore, it is entirely possible that each day will bring with it a chance to achieve new milestones. By taking advantage of these opportunities, you will create more outstanding material for your resume.
