How Satisfied Are You In Your Current Role?
When you started this job, you thought you had hit the jackpot. It was a great move forward in your career goals. It may have paid more than any other job you have worked. You got along alright with your co-workers, and your boss really seemed to appreciate the work you did. But over time, you are beginning to feel differently. You can't wait for the weekends, and not just every now and then, but every week. And on Sundays, you dread having to go back to that office. You feel stressed and tired. You carry resentments and irritability home with you. These are all signs of job dissatisfaction. We all experience this from time to time, no matter how great our careers are. The question is, how satisfied are you really? Is this just a phase that will pass or is it really time to find something else? Well, ask yourself the following questions and see what you come up with:
- Do your bad days at work outweigh your good ones?
- Does time seem to stand still when you are at work?
- Do you spend a good deal of time daydreaming about a better job?
- Do you find most of your responsibilities repetitive and boring?
- Are you physically and mentally exhausted at the end of every day?
- Do you have an increasingly poor attitude toward the people you work with, your boss, or your company?
- Do you feel you have the resources you need to do your job well?
- Are your skills being utilized to your full capability?
- Have your scheduled reviews been average more than they have been outstanding?
- Do you feel deceived about your future with the company?
- Have you been passed up for a promotion in the last few years?
- Do you feel that the work you do has little impact on the company?
- Do you feel let down by your boss or your employees?
- Do you feel overwhelmed or overworked?
- Are you frequently stressed at work?
- Do you live for weekends and holidays?
- Do you compare your situation to your peers and come up short?
- Are you becoming more cynical?
- Are you on track with your career goals and personal aspirations?
- Do you feel valued for your work?
Try to answer these questions honestly and then check back in with yourself after a month or so to see if the answers have changed. If after a few weeks, you feel things are getting worse, it's time to look for something new before you damage your employment record.
