However, before you launch a new career in sales or marketing, take a moment to consider a few things first. There are a number of aspects to this line of work that make it challenging and sometimes difficult. On the other hand, if you are prepared and open to new experiences, you can move beyond your greatest expectations.

There are a few aspects of sales and marketing that are universal no matter what company you work for or what country you work in. One of these essentials is communication. The impact of effective communication on a sale is the largest factor in success. Without communication that meets the needs of all parties involved, a deal cannot go through. It doesn't matter how great the idea is or how innovative the product is. If you cannot effectively communicate to the client what it will do for them, you will not make the sale.
Another fundamental aspect of sales and marketing is trust. You must come from a place that speaks to your clients of honesty and integrity. This can take years. Although, for some people, it only takes one conversation.
Finally, influence plays an important role in all sales. You must have a grasp on the subtle idea of influence and how it works with people. Now this is not manipulation or coercion. Influence means that you can win someone over to your viewpoint and help them to see what you want them to see, not in order to harm them or change them in any permanent way, but to allow them to see the bigger picture of your pitch.

Your unique personality is your biggest asset in sales and marketing. Whether it's your creativity or your kind nature, who you are plays a major role in your sales. However, if each person is different, how can you prepare for a career in sales and marketing?
The answer is simple. Get to know yourself. Look at your strong suits. Not much of a conversationalist? Get comfortable with being straightforward and direct, and people will respond to that. Take a look at your background and use the facts of your life to get to know people. Overall, if you can bring your best self to the sales and marketing table, if you can walk in with a confidence that you are enough, then the sale is halfway there.
