Market analysts need the ability to remember details, and the intuition to connect events and draw conclusions. They must also have the mind of a detective, with a strong desire to draw out obscure information that might be valuable. They must be able to work well independently. They need good writing and presentation skills and the ability to communicate at all levels of their organization.

Market analyst positions require a Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance or economics, with coursework in investments, finance, economics and accounting. Many brokerage houses require their analysts to have a Master's degree and experience as a broker or trader.

The volatility of financial markets in today's economy will ensure the need for Market Analysts indefinitely. It is a stressful and high-pressure position that requires excellent analytical skills and good luck, too. This is a high turnover field, because market volatility can make predicting difficult in some years, and this causes many analysts to change jobs.
