Market Research Professional

In today's large corporations, more and more money and resources are allocated each year to marketing products and services, and ensuring a positive corporate image. One of the important positions in marketing department is that of the Market Research professional. This role is dedicated to analyzing the future potential sales of a product or service, and is a key position in helping predict sales quotas, expected revenues, and establishing marketing strategies.

Market Research professionals use various methods to help their company assess product potential. They study past statistics, gather data on their competitors and conduct surveys and opinion research to make determinations about the potential sales of a new or existing product or service.

Once the data is gathered, the Market Research professionals analyze the data in order to provide senior staff with information that will contribute to the preparation of sales and marketing strategies, advertising campaigns, and even financial goals.

Market research professionals also measure statistics for their own company about their customers and marketing plans. They measure the effectiveness of marketing and advertising campaigns, and measure customer satisfaction. They may also monitor industry statistics and trends in advertising and trade literature.

Market research professionals must be extremely detail oriented and analytical. They must be patient and persistent, as long hours of independent work are required to research and analyze data in order to make sound recommendations. At the same time, they must be good speakers, and have excellent written and verbal communication skills, as they may be called upon to present their findings via written reports or oral presentations.

The minimum requirement for a Market Research position is typically a bachelor's degree in marketing or economics. This degree will help you gain an entry-level position conducting research or interviews to pass along to a higher-level market researcher for analysis. For a mid level market research position, you will need a Master's degree or a few years experience in the marketing department. There is good potential for career advancement in this field. Many companies have an entire research department, which allows for many levels of positions, including management roles. There are also very large market research firms who hire a large number of market research professionals, in very broad and very specific capacities. In these firms, there is usually much potential for growth.

The job outlook for market research professionals is very good. There are jobs available in financial services, healthcare, advertising, manufacturing firms and insurance companies, as well as market research firms. The trend toward devoting human and financial resources to thoroughly researching markets, sales trends and competitive data is expected to continue, and even to grow. Time and research is proving out that companies who spend dollars on thorough investigation of their sales market and competition are rewarded in the long run, so these investments are likely to continue.

There are many avenues to securing a market research job. There are many job boards dedicated solely to marketing jobs, and some even specifically geared toward market research. To find available market research jobs, visit www.research247.com.
