Securing An Interview Callback
When you go in for an interview you can most likely expect to be interviewed more than once before you are hired. Employers like to interview applicants at different times and with different approaches so they will get to see the real person behind the name. Those who get called back are ones who have made a good impression the first time and the employer wishes to find out more about him or her.
You are called for an interview and you have between twenty and thirty minutes to make a pretty good impression on the employer. This first interview will screen you, or sift you through the dozens if not hundreds of applicants who have applied for the same position. You must make a good impression if you desire to be called back. How do you make a good impression and secure a callback from the employer?
Advanced Preparation
Being prepared is an absolute must! Being prepared includes, but is not limited to:
- Dressing and grooming properly,
- Preparing your answers,
- Preparing your mind,
- Revising your resume,
- Preparing additional questions for the employer and,
- Preparing tactful replies to personal questions.
Always be prepared for an interview. A prepared interviewee will help progress the interview along smoothly. And of course being prepared will help ease some of the stress of the actual interview itself.
Be Enthusiastic
This is one of the most common mistakes that interviewees make. They lack the proper enthusiasm for the job they are applying for. Allow your enthusiasm to radiant from the inside out. The interviewer will see how enthusiastic about the job! Do your research on the company itself and show your enthusiasm for the opportunity to be a part of the company.
Always Bring Out Your Job Related Strengths
Employers love to hear about how well you work with others or how great you are as a problem solver. Impress him or her with what you have done, what you are doing now and what you plan on doing in the future. Do your best to make a very good first impression with the interviewer. Highlight the best parts of your working career with the best possible accomplishments or the more honorable strengths you have. They will be sure to take notice. Be sure not to highlight your accomplishments by bragging.
And don't forget to smile and generate goodwill between you and the interviewer. Never underestimate the power of a smile. If you follow these few steps, you will be sure to secure a call back for a second interview.
