The Art Of Self-promotion Without A Trace Of Arrogance

Self-promotion isn't about being arrogant or overconfident it's about marketing yourself. The simple fact is that the job market is highly competitive and if you are not prepared to promote your assets then you will get left behind in the race. Self-promotion is not about ego it's about highlighting your selling points and commanding attention.

The art of self-promotion without a trace of arrogance is to make it about them. With your job correspondence your main aim should be to show your potential employer how you can benefit the company. You want to highlight your skills, qualifications and experience but you should be looking at doing that in relation to the company and role requirements.

For example instead of saying "I have outstanding project management skills and am an excellent communicator" Try "My outstanding project management skills make me a viable candidate for assisting you with the management of your upcoming project objectives"

Instead of "I am the best candidate for the role as my qualifications will show" Try "My qualifications are a perfect match for the role" or "I have achieved considerable gains for the company in my last role" Try "My experiences working as a consultant proved beneficial for my last company and will be invaluable in this new role"

The first statement is all about you and may come off a little overconfident and it also lacks any connection with the company. The second statement takes the focus of you and shifts it on to what you can do for them. At the end of the day that is what employers are really interested in. This statement shows confidence, presents skills and highlights how that translates into results for the company. The best way to get the attention you need to gain a competitive edge is to be professional, confident and to the point without being arrogant.

Self-promotion is really about marketing your attributes. Marketing is about knowing your audience and giving them what they want. The art of self-promotion in the job hunt is about knowing what your employer is looking for, knowing what the company goals and missions are and what the role requirements are. If you understand this then you are already one step ahead of the competition. The most effective way to promote yourself in the job market is to demonstrate how your abilities can and will get results for the company. This way you can market your abilities, demonstrate your knowledge and generally talk up your experience and qualifications without a trace of arrogance. If you make it all about them then it's only subtly about you and therefore it lacks any pretense or conceitedness.

The art of self-promotion is simply to put your best foot forward and be confident that your abilities will shine through. In any job you go for it is always best to demonstrate your abilities in direct relation to the company. Many people confuse the concept of self-marketing because it really isn't about you. It is about giving your audience what they want and if they don't know they want it convincing them they do.
