Why A Thank You Letter Is An Important Follow Up

After any interview follow up is essential. Failure to do so may result in you being over looked for the position. A thank you letter is an important follow up because it lets your employer know you are serious about the position. It shows you have a professional attitude and are courteous. This is all before they have even read the letter. Following up is also important in other situations too. If you have used a recruitment agency to get an interview or if you had help from a mentor a thank you letter is a great way to show your appreciation. Sometimes you may just find it necessary to thank a person who has helped you with your application. Whatever the situation good follow up can go a long way.

The act of sending the thank you letter is as just significant as what you say in it. A thank you letter will enhance you candidacy for the role and put you in the forefront of the employers mind. Follow ups should be carried out as close to the interview as possible. After an interview a typed letter is the most appropriate but it is acceptable to send an email or hand written note in some cases. If you are stuck for words send a small note straight away then spend a bit more time on the letter and send that too. Make sure you send your letter within 1 week after the interview this way you can be sure your letter has the opportunity to affect the decision. It is also good to send it sooner rather than later while your interview is still fresh in an interviewers mind.

Thank you letters are your final impression and they can help secure you the job of your dreams. The key to successful job correspondence is targeting your audience. After an interview or personal meeting you have a better understanding of the culture, office environment and positional requirements. This means you can put your newly acquired knowledge to work in your final thank you letter. Use this new information to target your letter and to demonstrate your understanding of the interview.

Your thank you letter can reinforce how your qualities and experiences are a match for the company and position. You can reassure the employer you are committed to the job and address any concerns brought up in the interview. Finally you can go over anything you may have left out in the interview and develop your ideas in further depth. A thank you letter is a great way to reconnect with the interviewer and establish your relationship further.

In the current climate of the job market you have to take every step possible in setting yourself apart and selling your competitive edge. The follow up letter is as important as any other job correspondence you use. It is an opportunity to sell you attributes and convince your potential employer you're the right person for the job. A well-written thank you letter really just puts the finishing touches on all your hard work. It is the ideal way to say thank you but also to market your abilities. The thank you letter is an effective follow up in a highly competitive job market.
