You Got Fired? Top Tips For Dealing With This Scenario
Getting fired may feel like the end of the line for your career, but it does not have to be. There are many reasons for losing a job. In this varying economic climate, lay- offs are more and more frequent. Sometimes a company simply does not have the money to keep a position, regardless of how highly they may think of the person holding it. Sometimes, corporate decisions trickle down to local branches and force employers to make tough decisions about quality workers. Other times, personality conflicts, lack of communication, or personal issues interfere in the work place and moving on is actually the best thing for you, even if it does not feel like it at the time.
No matter what the reasons were that you lost your last job, you still have the potential to impress a new employer and find yourself a great new job. Thousands of people lose their jobs every year and it does not stop them from moving on, feeding their families, and advancing to new levels in their chosen fields. You can do this too. Rather than get discouraged, try these tips for moving on:
- Build your own confidence. It is time to look back at all the good and productive accomplishments of your life, especially of your career. There were certainly examples of praise and success in your last job, even if you were fired. Make a list of your professional accomplishments. Include awards, ideas for new projects, input on existing projects, praise from superiors, praise from co-workers or employees. Think about the times that people came to you for help and what they said about your valuable input or experience. Write all of these things down and read them. Realize that you have a lot to offer.
- Set some goals. Once you have your list, take some time to think about your career choices. Now that you are in between jobs, this is an excellent time to review what it is exactly that you want out of your career. Are you on the right track? Was that last job one that would have taken you where you want to go or was it just the most available or the highest paying? Don't waste your time on things that do not make you feel inspired and or that won't forward your goals.
- Start searching. Do not sit around and let your new found confidence wane. Get out there and start looking for the job that will take you to the next level and the company that can truly benefit from what you have to offer.
