Your Cover Letter Needs To Proclaim Your Unique Sales Experience
Undoubtedly, finding a job these days can be a difficult enterprise. Even in a relatively good economy, high-paying positions of responsibility are often hard to come by. Therefore, you must be especially clever when it comes to packaging your candidacy.
One of the key elements of your job-hunting campaign will be the writing of your cover letter. This is your entrée into the boardroom. A winning cover letter could help you to secure the interview, which will land you the job of your dreams. If you are in the field of sales, it is critically important that your cover letter proclaims your unique experience. But how can you accomplish this difficult feat?
Engage in some brainstorming
Far too often, a job applicant will begin writing a cover letter without really having a thorough understanding of what needs to be said. As a result, the finished product is lackluster and is a poor reflection on the writer. It doesn't have to be this way, however. One way to prevent this from happening is to do a little brainstorming.
Sit down at your computer.or with a pad and pen.and jot down some of your unique sales experiences. For instance, you might have sold a car to the mayor's office.or a couple of cars to the local police force. You might have served as the personal shopper for a local celebrity. In any sales career, there are certain key incidents that stand out-it's your responsibility to highlight these in your cover letter.
Don't be bashful when stating your case
While it is important to maintain a sense of humility, you simply can't hide your achievements. In your cover letter, state your unique sales experiences in entertaining, engaging language. Don't worry that you'll be accused of boasting. The chances of that are actually quite small. Your prospective employer will want to know what makes you unique and your cover letter is a perfect venue for that.
Don't stretch the truth
While it is important that you highlight your experiences, it is equally important that you not fudge the truth. In other words, don't oversell your story. If you sold a gown to a duchess, don't pretend you sold it to a princess. Your cover letter needs to be, above all else, honest and straightforward.
The cover letter as sales pitch
You need to begin thinking of your cover letter as a sales pitch. As a sales professional, you're accustomed to making such a pitch, so the technique should come quite naturally to you. With your cover letter, you want to make the best possible first impression. Proclaiming your unique experience will help you to do just that.
Consider a few drafts
It is entirely possible that you won't get the cover letter right on the first try. Be prepared to make a number of drafts. As you practice, you will perfect the art of cover letter writing. Have one of your mentors read the finished product to determine if it will suit your needs.
